Bundle up your TV, broadband and phone to save money

Yet if you’re willing to spend a bit of time and effort comparing combined phone, TV and broadband plans you could soon be enjoying a streamlined service at a lower monthly price.

But with so many broadband providers around it can be difficult to know whether the one you choose is offering the best deal available. The trouble is that most of us started out with one of the three services and added different elements as they needed them, taking the best deal around at the time.

So while you may have originally had your phone line installed by BT, it was probably before the internet had even been invented, yet alone before the possibility of having a broadband connection to your home. There’s also a great sense of complacency when it comes to household bills, and as the old saying goes ‘if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it?’

And now, of course, there are also internet television providers like Netflix, where you pay a monthly subscription to have access to over a billion hours of films and TV programmes, which you can play, pause and resume at any time. Similarly, Sky, Virgin and BT offer customers the ability to pause and rewind programmes as well as the possibility of recording their favourite programmes, meaning that you really can programme a TV schedule to suit you. There’s a huge range of choice of how we get our TV today.

But if you want to reduce your costs and get all your TV, phone and internet services onto one monthly bill, the best way to do so is through one of the main broadband providers which offer the best prices available through their bundle deals. Most providers have an enticing welcome deal to sign you up – offering free broadband for a number of months, or free evening and weekend phone calls.

It depends what’s the most important thing for you. Do you need to have a superfast connection to the internet at home, or is the choice of TV channels and films more important to you? How interested are you in free evening and weekend calls on a landline? Some people barely use their landline these days.

The great thing about having all the different services from one provider is that you’ll get a single bill each month, with a clear breakdown of how much each element is costing you. Over time you’ll be able to see if you need to adjust the bundle in any way to make it more cost-effective. For example, although you might think you need an unlimited broadband allowance, your monthly bill might show just how little broadband you are using, so you could reduce that and increase the choice of TV that you have.

It can be a bit confusing looking at and comparing all the different broadband phone and TV deals that are out there, so if your interest level in the detail is low, you’re probably best off finding a cost comparison website, which will lay out the different deals side by side and make it a lot clearer to see what each bundle offers.
