‘Doctor Who’ 50th: John Hurt’s character details revealed (spoilers)

Hurt made his onscreen debut in May at the end of Series 7’s finale, ‘The Name of the Doctor’.

The Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall visited the BBC’s Roath Lock studios in Cardiff yesterday, where they spoke to Matt Smith, Jenna Coleman and a number of the show’s production team.

Discussing Hurt’s character, costume designer Howard Burden explained: “There was a gap between Paul McGann playing the Doctor and Christopher Eccleston, when we didn’t see a regeneration, and John Hurt will fit into that gap. He is a past Doctor, not a future Doctor.”
