The Doctor vs the Dinosaurs: 5 of the best dino adventures in ‘Doctor Who’

Posted Filed under

With the prehistoric beasts making a comeback at the cinema in this summer’s Jurassic World, here’s our rundown of the Doctor vs the Dinosaurs…

‘Doctor Who and the Silurians’

Doctor Who and the Silurians

In the second tale of Jon Pertwee’s serious, Earthbound Season 7, experiments at the Wenley Moor Nuclear Research Facility saw humanity wake the Earth’s former inhabitants from their centuries old slumber.

Dubbed Silurians, although probably actually hailing from the Eocene era (honestly. don’t go there), these Earth reptiles had an odd-looking pet dinosaur at their command and designs on reassuming control of their planet.

‘Earthshock’

Doctor Who Earthshock

Although not actually appearing in the flesh, this Cyber-tale from Peter Davision’s debut season dealt comprehensively with the reason for the extinction of the dinosaurs.

While some fossil related scenes at the top of the story laid the foundations, it was climatic scenes on board an Earth bound space freighter under Cyber control that saw the ship turned into a flying bomb to ram the planet.

Thanks to Adric’s involvement attempting to break the control device, the freighter slipped back 65 million years to become the impact event which killed of the dinosaurs. It also saw the death of mathematical genius Adric too.
