DC Universe’s Doom Patrol: Joivan Wade cast as Cyborg

DC Universe’s live-action series, Doom Patrol, has started to assemble its cast by recruiting Joivan Wade as Victor Stone, alias Cyborg.

Wade is best known around these parts as Rigsy in Doctor Who towards the end of Peter Capaldi’s run, and he recently broke into Hollywood with a lead role in The First Purge. He also starred in an arc on EastEnders in 2016.

Doom Patrol hails from Greg Berlanti, who is set to executive produce and write the series alongside Supernatural alum Jeremy Carver. Geoff Johns and Sarah Schechter will also executive produce.

The Doom Patrol are set to appear in DC Universe’s first live-action series, Titans, this autumn before going on to front their own show. Orange is the New Black‘s Diane Gurrero and The Big Bang Theory‘s April Bowlby have been cast as Crazy Jane and Elasti-Girl, respectively.

Back in the spring when the series was announced we got a synopsis, which curiously omits Cyborg:

Doom Patrol is a re-imagining of one of DC’s most beloved group of outcast Super Heroes: Robotman, Negative Man, Elasti-Girl and Crazy Jane, led by modern-day mad scientist Dr. Niles Caulder (The Chief). The Doom Patrol’s members each suffered horrible accidents that gave them superhuman abilities — but also left them scarred and disfigured. Traumatized and downtrodden, the team found purpose through The Chief, who brought them together to investigate the weirdest phenomena in existence — and to protect Earth from what they find. Part support group, part Super Hero team, the Doom Patrol is a band of super-powered freaks who fight for a world that wants nothing to do with them. Picking up after the events of Titans, Doom Patrol will find these reluctant heroes in a place they never expected to be, called to action by none other than Cyborg, who comes to them with a mission hard to refuse, but with a warning that is hard to ignore: their lives will never, ever be the same.”

The show’s first 13-episode season will begin production in the autumn and air on DC Universe next year.

We’ll be sure to update you on this series.
