In an interview in Radio Times magazine, it was revealed that though Tosin Cole and Mandip Gill knew they were auditioning for Doctor Who, the name of the project they were given was “Plane Hitters,” according to Mandip Gill.

“I thought I was going to be a pilot or something!”

Gill was instead tapped to portray a police officer, a role she relished as she had a brief childhood dream of becoming one herself.
