Series 8 begins filming later this month and is expected to start airing on BBC One in August 2014.

The actress told Doctor Who Magazine in the latest issue: “Even now, it still feels like really early days. So much of Clara has been driven by the story … it’ll be interesting to see what happens next. Where now?”

Coleman teased: “Because of this tie with her and the eleven Doctors – or twelve! – she knows this man inside out.”

She added: “What’s interesting … is the sense that – not in an awful way, but – she doesn’t need him. She won’t just do as she’s told, as they wander into all sorts of danger. She definitely makes him work, and she doesn’t wear everything on her sleeve. It’s a different approach, which has thrown the Doctor, but it’s going to be interesting where we go now.”
