Game Of Thrones: actors behind our fallen heroes discuss their demise

Posted Filed under

Many of the actors whose Game Of Thrones characters died during the Battle of Winterfell, in season 8 episode 3, have been chatting about their last days on the show. Here are the quotes…

Collider has assembled a lovely collection of stories from the cast, focusing on the last days of filming for our fallen heroes.

Iain Glen, who plays Jorah Mormont, said this about his last day of filming:

“It was very affecting. All the kind of principal cast got these lovely gifts of a framed section of a storyboard from a kind of critical scene that we’d done over the previous seasons with some lovely words of affection and thanks from Dan [Weiss] and David [Benioff] on the back and they gave a little speech. So that was really touching. And I find it, yeah, all very overwhelming. It’s just cumulatively — over the course of the last decade — it’s kind of seared into my bones and conscious, you know, this whole ‘Thrones’ extraordinary ride that we’ve been on that none of us knew where it was going to go. So it’s been a wonderful, wonderful journey. And, so I felt very sad at the thought that it was now kind of — it was going to go away.”

Carice Van Houten, who plays Melisandre, said this about finishing filming:

“I was crying. I didn’t see it coming, but then, when they started the speech and I just – I just lost it.”

Richard Dormer, who plays Beric Dondarrion, said this:

“Everybody just didn’t think it was definitely over. And there’s always the thing of, ‘We need you in to do a pick up.’ So you never know, but it pretty much is once you get your little gift and David and Dan go, ‘Thanks guys’ – [then] you know it’s pretty much over. But you can’t accept it because you’re thinking, ‘No, this can’t be right. I’m sure I’ll be in next week.”

Bella Ramsey, who plays Lyanna Mormont, spoke to EW. She remembered this piece of direction from battle helmer Miguel Sapochnik:

“There was one thing he said to me that I don’t think I’ll ever forget. I wasn’t sure if she would be really scared or just a slight bit of scared. We tried it several ways. He said, “It’s like someone removed her fear gene.” And that was just … yeah, that was a really great bit of direction. “

Ben Allen – who plays Edd – hasn’t commented on his death yet. And neither has Alfie Allen, who plays Theon.

we’ll keep bringing you Game Of Thrones news as we see it.
