Another face has been added to The End of the F***ing World, E4 and Netflix’s upcoming teen thriller, with Gemma Whelan joining the cast.

Whelan will play DC Eunice Noon, reports Digital Spy, a detective who is given her long-awaited time to shine when tasked with finding teens James (Black Mirror’s Alex Lawther) and Alyssa (Jessica Barden, Penny Dreadful).

The show has been described as “dark, intriguing, tense and chilling… shot through with moments of dark absurdity and humour.”

“From the instant we were introduced to the utterly original Charles Forsman graphic novel we knew it was something special,” said Robert Troni, commissioning editor at Channel 4. “Reimagined by the multi-talented Charlie Covell, Jon Entwistle and the guys at Clerkenwell for this side of the Atlantic, it’s by turns funny, brutally violent, ultimately quite uplifting in a screwed up way.

“If David Lynch made a rom-com road movie about a pair of teen misfits in British suburbia it might look something like The End of the F***ing World. What could be more E4?”

The series, a co-production between E4 and Netflix, is based on a award-winning comics series of the same name, written by Charles Forsman. The adaptation is being penned by Banana’s Charlie Covell.

Covell commented: “From the minute I got sent Chuck Forsman’s comics to read, I wanted in. They’re beautiful, and they tell a dark, unconventional coming-of-age love story. It have been a massive privilege to bring Chuck’s characters to screen.”

Before The End of the F***ing World airs later this year, Whelan will appear as Yara Greyjoy in the final run of Game of Thrones, which airs on Sky Atlantic in the UK.
