George R.R. Martin working with HBO on ANOTHER new series

Just finish the next Ice and Fire book already!

Even in the face of the many fans screaming at him to release the next instalment book in his Song of Ice and Fire series, the Winds of Winter (coming in 2016… er, no actually 2017 – maybe), George R.R. Martin seems to be want to be permanently busy with projects other than actually writing a novel.

Not only is he working with network HBO on upcoming spin-offs to Game of Thrones, which his Ice and Fire series spawned, he also has another of his stories – Nightflyers – being developed into a show by SyFy. Now, on top of that, he is working as an executive producer with HBO on another series. Specifically, he will be looking to help it bring Nnedi Okorafo’s novel Who Fears Death to the small screen.

The news was confirmed in a Twitter post by the author herself yesterday.

Set in a post-Apocalyptic Africa, Who Fears Death follows the story of Onyesonwu, a child born of adversity and horror. As the novel progresses, after a worrying vision, she embarks on a journey to understand her place in the world, and why she was given her name – an ancient-language translation of the book’s title.

Okorafor followed the success of that 2010 novel with a prequel, Book of Phoenix, published in 2015. She has also the author of 2011’s Akata Witch, which she will follow up with Akata Warrior later this year. Her already impressive CV is rounded of with Best Novella prizes from both the 2015 Nebula Awards and 2016 Hugo Awards, for her sci-fi story Binti.

As if all this weren’t cool enough, due for release in October this year is her contribution to the Star Wars literary anthology From A Certain Point of View. Okorafor’s portion of that book will be a short story called The Baptist, which will be told from the point of view of a Dianoga. Fans of the series will know that to be the creature that inhabits trash compactors on certain Imperial not-space-stations.

George R.R. Martin, is probably fielding calls from his frustrated editor as we speak.
