Henry Cavill to star in The Witcher for Netflix

Henry Cavill has found another high profile, somewhat geeky role to add to his CV: the Man Of Steel and Mission: Impossible – Fallout star is set to play the lead role of Geralt in Netflix’s adaptation of The Witcher fantasy books.

Penned by Polish writer Andrzej Sapkowski, The Witcher book series spans both novels and short stories and has already been adapted into three immensely popular video games. There has already been a Polish film and TV series based on the books, both of which were entitled The Hexer.

Cavill is a fan of said games and mentioned previously that he’d love the chance to play Gerald. Upon nabbing the part for Netflix’s sure-to-be-epic adaptation, he took to Instagram to announce the news in a rather brilliant way:

The official Netflix US Twitter account, meanwhile, took the time to ping a Tweet over to Boss Logic. This fan artist made a mock-up of Cavill as Geralt way back when the actor first discussed his love of The Witcher:

Lauren Schmidt Hissrich – who has also worked on Daredevil, The Defenders and Umbrella Academy for Netflix – will serve as showrunner on The Witcher. Alik Sakharov of House Of Cards and Game Of Thrones is among the executive producers.

The Witcher is expected to be an eight-part series with plentiful fantasy action. We’ll keep you posted as we hear more.
