‘Luther’: Series 3 confirmed as a BBC America co-production

BBC America have today announced that it will co-produce the next series of crime drama Luther.

Written by creator Neil Cross, the four-part mini-series will premiere later this year as part of BBC America’s Dramaville strand. Presumably the series will air in the UK around the same time.

Idris Elba will return as Detective Chief Investigator John Luther in the new episodes, alongside Warren Brown (Inside Men) as Detective Sergeant Justin Ripley, Dermot Crowley (Bleak House) as DSU Martin Schenk, Nikki Amuka-Bird (Survivors) as Detective Sergeant Erin Gray and Michael Smiley (Wire in the Blood) as Benny Silver.

Perry Simon, General Manager, Channels, BBC Worldwide America commented: “We’re delighted that Idris’ performance in Luther has been recognized this year with a Golden Globe® Award, an NAACP Image Award and a Primetime Emmy® Award nomination.”

Simon added: “His iconic role as John Luther has quickly become one of the most powerful detective characters television audiences have ever seen. Luther has been integral in establishing our new Dramaville franchise, the home for groundbreaking British drama.”
