Netflix expands into anime with Pacific Rim and Altered Carbon spinoffs

Netflix is expanding its anime output, with new plans to produce five anime titles revealed by the streaming service. Pacific Rim will get a series and Altered Carbon will get a movie, thanks to this new initiative.

Collider, quoting an official Netflix press release as its source, has this summary of the Altered Carbon movie:

“This anime feature, set in the same universe of the Netflix live-action sci-fi series (second season in production from Skydance Television), will explore new elements of the story mythology.”

And this one for the Pacific Rim series:

“Returning to the epic battle of Kaiju and Jeagers, this original anime series will expand upon the story of the first two live action movies and follow two siblings – an idealistic teenage boy and his naïve younger sister – who are forced to pilot an abandoned Jaeger across a hostile landscape in a desperate attempt to find their missing parents.”

The Pacific Rim show is brought to us by co-showrunners Craig Kyle and Greg Johnson, while the Altered Carbon movie is helmed by Dai Sato and Tsukasa Kondo.

The other new anime projects in the works at Netflix are entitled Yasuke, Trese and Cagaster Of An Insect Cage. We’ll bring you news on all of these shows and movies as we hear it.
