Outlander season 5 and season 6 have been confirmed (plus, new pics from season 4!)

Before Outlander season 4 has even arrived on our screens, the Starz network has confirmed that Outlander season 5 and Outlander season 6 will follow in its wake. This announcement of two more seasons has secured the show’s long-term future and brought joy to the series’ manifold fans.

Starz president Chris Albrecht released this statement about the double early renewal news:

“Fans can rest assured their beloved Claire [Caitriona Balfe] and Jamie [Sam Heughan] will be back facing new challenges, adversaries and adventures in seasons five and six as we delve into American history and continue the story of the Frasers as they settle in the New World”.

Continuing to work from Diana Gabaldon’s source material, season 5 and season 6 are expected to adapt the fifth and six novels in the Outlander book series: that would be The Fiery Cross and A Breath Of Snow And Ashes. Each of these new seasons will apparently consist of 12 episodes.

Further to this, we’ve also learned that Outlander season 4 will premiere in November. That piece of news came with this stack of fresh Outlander season 4 images…

With any luck, the early announcement of season 5 and 6 will allow the lengthy gap between seasons – aka the ‘droughtlander’ – to get a bit shorter.

We’ll bring you more Outlander news as we hear it.
