The remake of Utopia is back on, and it’s heading to Amazon

Utopia was a Channel 4 series that frustratingly left us all hanging. After two series of the ultra-violent show, Channel 4 pulled the plug, even though its creator, Dennis Kelly, had envisaged at least a three series arc.

Utopia swiftly attracted the attention of acclaimed movie director David Fincher though (Seven, Fight Club), and he began developing a US remake of the show, that was set up with HBO. Having worked with her on the movie of Gone Girl, he also brought in that book’s author – Gillian Flynn – to the project.

It soon fell apart though, and that appeared to be that. Well, at least until now. Because whilst Fincher is no longer involved, Flynn has inked a new deal with Amazon Studios, and Utopia is being swiftly resurrected as part of that. In fact, Amazon has ordered nine episodes up front, that Flynn will be showrunner for.

There’s no word yet on just when to expect Utopia. But it does sound like there’s a sporting chance at least that its story may finally get to be completed.
