Utopia remake casts Sasha Lane in starring role

Sasha Lane, star of American Honey, has nabbed a major role in the American remake of Utopia. The British version aired on Channel 4 in 2013 and 2014, and the new version is being made by Amazon.

Amazon has ordered 9 episodes of Utopia, with Gillian Flynn (author of the Sharp Objects book) is the creator of this new take on the show. The British version was created by Dennis Kelly, who is serving as an executive producer this time around.

On the casting of Sasha Lane in the role of Jessica Hyde, Gillian Flynn said this:

“As I’ve been writing Utopia and trying to imagine the actor who could possibly embody Jessica Hyde, Sasha Lane has constantly kicked her way into my mind. She has the shapeshifting ability to feel at once raw, unpredictable and a little unnerving while also making you want to wrap your arms around her. I couldn’t be more thrilled to have her play this utterly unique character.”

Jessica is described as being “tough and feral after a life on the run from a mysterious and dangerous group — she believes all the answers about her perplexing life story may be hidden in the graphic novel Utopia.”

The series will focus on a group of young adults who discover that this graphic novel may hold the truth about their dark future society. And as the project develops, we’ll be sure to keep you updated.
