The actor announced the news on Twitter this afternoon: “Sorry to be the bearer of bad news everyone but ITV don’t want any more Whitechapel. That’s all folks x”

The crime drama’s fourth series concluded on ITV last month.

Starring Rupert Penry Jones alongside Phil Davis and Steve Pemberton, Whitechapel launched in February 2009 and ran for 18 episodes.
