Weekend ratings round-up: ‘Downton Abbey’ reaches series high of 10.1m

On Saturday night Merlin continued the strong start to its fifth series with 5.5m (22.9%) people tuning in for Anthony Head’s short-lived return to Camelot. Over on BBC Two, the wonderful The Thick of It struggled to 862k (4.1%) viewers for the penultimate episode in its current series.

Me and Mrs Jones continued on Friday but dropped 700k viewers since its debut episode. Just 2.4m (11%) people watched the BBC One sitcom at 9.30pm and it also managed to shed over half of the 5.2m viewers that had watched Have I Got News For You at 9pm.

Viewers for Homeland on Channel 4 fell for the second week in a row to 1.9m (7.1%), while the highly anticipated third season of The Walking Dead launched on FX with 369k.
