Star Trek: Short Treks: Netflix won’t stream spin-off

It’s now been confirmed that despite airing Star Trek: Discovery, Netflix’s UK site will not be streaming the series’ spin-off series, Short Treks when it premieres this week…

TVWise reported the news and it doesn’t come as much of a surprise as Netflix didn’t include the spin-off in its earlier list of content being rolled out across October. Still, it’s a shame for UK Trekkies.

When Star Trek: Short Treks was first announced, we were informed that “each short will consist of a stand-alone story, each running 10-15 minutes, serving as an opportunity for deeper storytelling and exploration of key characters and themes that fit into Star Trek: Discovery and the expanding Star Trek universe, according to producers”.

Star Trek: Discovery‘s Rainn Wilson will return to play Harry Mudd in a short he will also direct, and Aldis Hodge will star in another as Craft, a man who finds himself the only human on board a deserted ship. Additional episodes include a deep dive into Saru’s (Doug Jones) backstory as the first Kelpien to join Starfleet, and Tilly’s (Mary Wiseman) journey aboard the U.S.S. Discovery and her friendship with an unlikely partner.”

CBS All Access will air one short a month from October, leading up to Star Trek: Discovery‘s season two premiere in January.

Here’s a teaser to feast your eyes on:

Star Trek: Short Treks premieres on October 4th on CBS All Access while Star Trek: Discovery returns in January on Netflix in the UK.

We’ll keep you updated if we hear of a UK broadcaster for Star Trek: Short Treks.
