Sony’s Silver & Black team-up movie, which was set to feature Silver Sable and Black Cat, has been officially shelved for the time being.
The movie, which had The Secret Life of Bees director Gina Prince-Blythewood behind the camera, was removed from its February 2019 release date in June because of the tight turnaround for production. Silver & Black never reached the casting stage and now Sony have officially put the kibosh on the project.
However, Sony has decided to feature Silver Sable and Black Cat in their own respective movies, with Sony currently putting out feelers for an initial Black Cat feature. Gina Prince-Blythewood is expected to depart as director and will maintain a producer’s credit, with Sony stating that should she formally leave, they will replace her with another female filmmaker.
Sony has been trying to kickstart its own superhero cinematic universe since it abandoned The Amazing Spider-Man series. Venom, starring Tom Hardy, is set to release in October and Sony are banking on a warm reception.
We’ll bring you more updates on any new projects starring Silver Sable and Black Cat as we hear them.
