Silver & Black series under consideration at Disney+

Could the long-in-gestation Silver Sable and Black Cat team-up project finally find a home at Disney+?

A couple of years ago, a mooted Silver & Black movie was in the works, with The Secret Life of Bees  director Gina Prince-Blythewood attached, but it was officially removed from the release schedule in the summer of 2018 as Sony officially put the kibosh on the project. At that time, Sony had apparently decided to feature Silver Sable and Black Cat in their own respective solo movies. Neither of them happened, mind, and there’s not been much movement on the Silver & Black front since.

Now, with Venom and Spider-Man now both hit franchises for the studio, you’d expect whispers about other projects to restart, but when Prince-Blythewood was asked recently by CBM if she’d heard anything about Silver & Black since she left the first team-up movie, she seemed to indicate that the Marvel pair could end up away from Sony – and on the Disney+ streaming development block.

“I really love that project, and I do hope it can still happen in some way,” she said. “It keeps going through different thoughts. First, it was going to be the two of them, and then the decision was made to separate the two. Now, there’s a thought of ‘Hey, maybe we put it on Disney+ as a limited series,’ but I loved it more as a film with the two of them. So, my hope is that one day it can still happen.”

It seems odd that Sony would give up more of its Marvel properties to Disney, but perhaps the renewed partnership between the two after last year’s falling out over the future of Spider-Man might have made the two studios working partnership even stronger?

We’ll bring you more on this if we hear anything.
