NBC’s gritty new US drama Aquarius will begin in the UK next month.

The X-Files star David Duchovny leads the cast as Los Angeles homicide detective Sam Hodiak in the show, alongside Game of Thrones actor Gethin Anthony as cult leader Charles Manson with Emma Dumont (Inherent Vice) and Claire Holt (The Vampire Diaries).

Aquarius starts at 9pm on Tuesday 11 August on Sky Atlantic.

The 13-part series is set in 1967 at the height of ‘the summer of love’ and years before Manson notoriously masterminded the horrific Tate-LaBianca murders for which he is now imprisoned.  The story follows the work of Hodiak as he enlists the help of a young detective Brian Shafe (Grey Damon), to aid his missing-persons investigation and to infiltrate the cult leaders expanding ‘family’ as Manson recruits vulnerable young men and women to join his dubious cause.

Duchovny will return to his role as Fox Mulder in a new The X-Files event series next January.
