She’s hinted at this before, but now Gillian Anderson has made it official: the upcoming run of The X-Files will be her last.
She’s alongside David Duchovny in season 11 of the show, that’s starting this month (Five is screening it in the UK). And in an interview with TV Insider, she’s confirmed that she’s moving on once the run is complete.
“I’ve said from the beginning this is it for me”, she said. She also added that “ I was a bit surprised by people’s reaction to my announcement – because my understanding was that this was a single season”.
The X-Files may yet go on without Anderson. But it’d feel very odd if it did…
