Philip Glenister takes the role of Prison Officer David Murdoch whose life becomes complicated when on a routine visit to a Manchester hospital with female prisoner Jules Hope (MyAnna Buring) events spiral out of control. David takes a phone call that will change his life forever.

With the life of his heavily pregnant daughter, Lucy (Sammy Winward), threatened, David has no alternative but to go on the run and inadvertently becomes the prey.

Unaware of the danger to Lucy, DS Susan Reinhardt, whose personal happiness seems forever blighted, tries to unravel why David is suddenly behaving totally out of character. With his reputation as a prison officer intact, Reinhardt tries to understand why he is now making every effort to dodge the police.

Reinhardt and her new colleague, DC Richard Iddon (Nathan Stewart-Jarrett), set off on a thrilling pursuit as a desperate David handcuffs himself to Jules.  She is his only bargaining tool as he sets out to move ‘heaven and earth’ to find his beloved daughter.

David Murdoch is a middle-aged prison officer; widowed, living alone, he has one grownup daughter, Lucy, who is pregnant. She is his world.

When Jules Hope, an inmate at Ravenhill Prison, is taken ill, it’s Murdoch who escorts her to hospital. But while Jules is waiting for treatment, Murdoch gets a phone call with an ultimatum that turns his life upside down.

If Murdoch wants to see his daughter again, he must break Jules out of hospital and deliver her to the man holding Lucy captive. If he talks to the police, Lucy will die.

Murdoch knows he has no choice but to comply. But when the plan goes awry he is forced to take matters into his own hands.

Pursued by DS Susan Reinhardt, Murdoch finds himself in a race against time to evade the law and save his daughter’s life.

With no idea of where his daughter is, Murdoch refuses to give himself up. He and Jules search for Jules’ brother Daniel, who they think holds the answers, while staying one step ahead of Reinhardt.

When Murdoch and Jules are informed by a neighbor that Daniel is dead, they are stunned.  Jules suspects that Daniel has been harmed by an archenemy from their past, Eddie. Jules and Eddie stole a large sum of money years ago, back in their hometown of Blackpool.  Eddie was caught, took the rap and went to prison while Jules got away scot-free. Did Eddie kill Daniel in revenge, and does he now have Lucy?

Meanwhile, the body on the roof of the car turns out to be Murdoch’s boss, Jeff Crabtree, who was in serious debt.  Did someone pay him to allow Jules to break out of prison?

Reinhardt deduces that Jules is returning to home territory and sets off in hot pursuit.  Fearing that Eddie might also harm Jules, Murdoch sets out to find him alone. But Eddie has disappeared – and before Murdoch can find out who has his daughter, disaster strikes.  Reinhardt catches Murdoch.  The chase is over…leaving Lucy remaining in mortal danger.

Things seem bleak for Murdoch when he learns from Reinhardt that Eddie is in fact dead, and Jules has been spotted escaping with brother Daniel.  It’s the ultimate betrayal by Jules.  Reinhardt is determined to find out the truth about who is behind Lucy’s abduction, but Murdoch fears he’ll never see her again.

However Jules and Daniel have a bigger plan. They need Murdoch’s help to retrieve money they stole from Eddie years before.  In a daring raid, they break Murdoch out of Reinhardt’s custody.

With Lucy still at the mercy of Daniel, Murdoch is forced to go back to his place of work, Ravenshill Prison.  His mission:  to retrieve a key from Jule’s possessions, which will unlock the stolen money.   With Murdoch still a wanted man, it’s a near-impossible task.  If he fails, Daniel insists, Lucy will die.

Somehow, against the odds, Murdoch holds his nerve.  Outwitting the prison authorities, the police, and Lucy’s captors, Murdoch will stop at nothing to protect his precious daughter.  But Reinhardt will not rest til justice is done.

Will Murdoch get Lucy to safety before Reinhardt catches her prey?
