BBC Two orders Cold War drama ‘Legacy’

Based on Alan Judd’s novel, Legacy is “a gripping espionage thriller set during the height of the Cold War in 1970s London”.

The 90-minute film tells the compelling story of a young spy, Charles Thoroughgood, who discovers the disturbing truth about his father’s complex past.

Writer Paula Milne commented: “Legacy falls well within the genre of the British spy thriller but has an extraordinary personal twist to it which made it really irresistible for me. For what is espionage if not betrayal at the most fundamental level of human interactions? When that occurs within a family… it’s dynamite!”

Janice Hadlow, Controller, BBC Two, added: “‘BBC Two enjoys taking a fresh look at important moments in history and the Cold War is ripe for a reappraisal. I’m thrilled that talent of the calibre of Paula Milne and Dominic Sandbrook are leading a collection of programmes that will reinvigorate the Cold War genre for a new generation.”

BBC Two’s Cold War season will “explore the cultural and political upheaval of a tumultuous period in history that divided the world in half and shaped modern politics”.
