The 1950s newsroom drama was recommissioned in August for a new six-part series, which began filming in the London area this week.

Capaldi (The Thick of It), Tointon (The Inbetweeners) and Burke (State of Play) will star alongside returning cast members Romola Garai, Dominic West, Ben Whishaw, Julian Rhind-Tutt, Oona Chaplin and Anna Chancellor.

Series 2’s six new episodes will see the team “striving to broadcast the stories they believe in as they grapple with the looming spectre of the Cold War and changing social mores”.

Creator Abi Morgan has written Episodes 1, 2, 5 and 6, while Nicole Taylor (Ashes to Ashes) has written Episode 3 and George Kay has written Episode 4.

The Hour concluded earlier this year and averaged an audience of 2.1 million viewers across the series.

Ben Whishaw is currently also filming the 23rd James Bond film, Skyfall, in which he will be playing a new incarnation of gadget master Q.
