Line Of Duty and This Is England star Vicky McClure has signed up for a role in the upcoming Alex Rider TV series, which will adapt Anthony Horowitz’s teen-spy novels for the small screen. Here’s everything you need to know…

Alongside McClure, other new cast members confirmed for the Alex Rider TV show include Andrew Buchan (the dad from Broadchurch) and Stephen Dillane (Stannis from Game Of Thrones).

They join Otto Farrant in the cast, with Farrant set to headline the show as the eponymous Alex Rider. He’s been seen before in Mrs Wilson, Marcella and War and Peace. This is what he looks like…

“I couldn’t be more excited to play such an iconic character as Alex Rider”, Farrant has been quoted as saying. “I loved the books growing up and it is an honour to be able to step into his shoes and give the fans the fresh and thrilling adaptation the series deserves.”

Book author Anthony Horowitz added this: “This really seems to be Alex’s year with the 20th anniversary approaching, a new novel on the way and now this brilliant TV series, which I hope will appeal to everyone who grew up with the books.”

The eight-episode Alex Rider TV series, which is based mainly on the novel Point Blanc, is being developed by Sony Pictures Television and Eleventh Hour Films. It’s unclear which UK broadcaster will house the show, but we’ll keep you posted as we hear more.
