Jodie Whittaker says “Christmas” special is “definitely worth the wait”

At the end of an interview with Guy Garvey of BBC Radio 6’s Slow Sunday, yet another hint was revealed during the conversation with Jodie Whittaker that the Doctor Who festive special, Revolution of the Daleks, will air on Christmas day.

Though there have been many hints and the words of a source that the special will air on Christmas Day, BBC Studios has not yet officially announced the air date.

At the end of the interview, Garvey said, “Thank you very much to the thirteenth Doctor, Jodie Whittaker for a wonderful interview. Enjoy your slow Sunday. Can’t wait for the Christmas special – and do you have a message for the Whovians out there?”

Without correcting Garvey by referring to Revolution of the Daleks as the Doctor Who “festive special”, Jodie Whittaker replied, “It is definitely worth the wait!”

It is also worth noting that the two Revolution of the Daleks photos BBC Studios sent to CultBox and other media outlets came with metadata including an auto-caption which gave the “Programme Name” as “Doctor Who Christmas Special 2020.”

When Garvey asked Jodie Whittaker what she thinks the Doctor does on Sundays, she replied:

“I think this is the big question of time, isn’t it? It’s how we experience it. And this is why it’s such a lovely role, because you can immerse yourself in the idea that time plays out differently for other planets and others worlds and other universes. And, for us, it’s a seven-day-a-week, 24-hour-a-day, and it has a pattern and a rhythm. But I think the joy of playing the Doctor is that it doesn’t follow that pattern in any way and you can rock up on one planet and not have days of the week at all. And so, I think the idea of chilling out… I don’t really play the Doctor very relaxed very often, as you might imagine,” she said laughing. “There’s [not] a lot of lying on the couch watching David Attenborough.”

“The thing is, time is such a massive subject and it’s such a beautiful subject because it means something different to everybody. And it can mean be nostalgia or it can mean hope for future and it plays into every decision you make.”

Revolution of the Daleks is announced to air sometime during the 2020/2021 winter holiday season but will most likely air on Christmas day 2020.
