The Game of Thrones actor will be playing a mysterious bad guy called Oren…
Amazon’s extraordinarily expensive Lord of the Rings TV series has cast its villain, according to Variety. Joseph Mawle, who played Benjen Stark in HBO’s Game Of Thrones and Odysseus in Troy: Fall of a City, has joined the show as a villain called Oren, though no other details are available to the press at this time.
Mawle joins Will Poulter (Black Mirror: Bandersnatch) and Markella Kavenagh (Picnic at Hanging Rock) in the expanding lineup.
Amazon has been very quiet about the nature of its J.R.R. Tolkien adaptation, but it’s thought to be set before The Fellowship of the Ring. Mawle isn’t the only Game Of Thrones alum onboard, as writer Bryan Cogman is producing the series. J.A. Bayona (Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom) has signed up to direct many of season one’s episodes.
Amazon has ordered at least two seasons of the show, and just acquiring the rights to develop it apparently cost the streaming service $1 billion.
More on this as it arrives.
