Middle Earth is about to be shaken by a new adaptation on Amazon…

Amazon’s The Lord Of The Rings has officially set its cast!

Robert Aramayo, Owain Arthur and Nazanin Boniadi are the leads, and will star alongside Tom Budge, Morfydd Clark, Ismael Cruz Córdova, Ema Horvath, Markella Kavenagh, Joseph Mawle, Tyroe Muhafidin, Sophia Nomvete, Megan Richards, Dylan Smith and Charlie Vickers.

“After undertaking an extensive global search, we are delighted finally to reveal the first group of brilliant performers who will take part in Amazon’s ‘The Lord of the Rings’ series,” said series showrunners J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay in a statement. “These exceptionally talented women and men are more than just our actors: they are the newest members of an ever-expanding creative family that is now working tirelessly to bring Middle-earth to life anew for fans and audiences worldwide.”

Amazon’s extraordinarily expensive Lord of the Rings TV series has previously cast its villain, Mawle, who played Benjen Stark in HBO’s Game Of Thrones and Odysseus in Troy: Fall of a City. He’ll play someone called Oren, though no other details are available to the press at this time.

Amazon has been very quiet about the nature of its J.R.R. Tolkien adaptation, but it’s thought to be set before The Fellowship of the Ring. Mawle isn’t the only Game Of Thrones alum onboard, as writer Bryan Cogman is producing the series. J.A. Bayona (Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom) has signed up to direct many of season one’s episodes.

Amazon has ordered at least two seasons of the show, and just acquiring the rights to develop it apparently cost the streaming service $1 billion.

More on this as it arrives.
