Henry Cavill is back in the saddle, as Netflix’s most popular series continues filming…

Production on season 2 of Netflix’s fantasy series The Witcher has restarted in the UK. Filming was halted in mid-March after the COVID-19 pandemic rolled across the globe.

News that work on season 2 had resumed was revealed by The Witcher director Stephen Surjik via Twitter on 5th August, and was then confirmed by its showrunner Lauren S. Hissrich on the 6th. Surjik wrote that “Everyone is being cautious but spirits are high”.

This week, star Henry Cavill has posted a behind the scenes image, looking battered and bruised (only makeup, chums – showbiz innit!) as he has his new style of wig applied:

“No bald cap this year,” he wrote. “Just pounds of 2 types of medical tape and some glue…. Removal is a joy. Jacqui and Ailbhe here, though, have the deft touch of angels. Jacqui more so an Angel of Vengeance, but that’s all part of her charm.

“Oh and for those who may be worrying. All of us are Covid cleared and bubbled. We get tested twice a week up here in Kaer Morhen!”

The Witcher originated as a series of novels and short stories penned by Polish writer Andrzej Sapkowski. They follow “witchers” – monster hunters in a world filled with beasts. Sapkowski’s ideas have been adapted into numerous other guises over the years, including a much-loved trilogy of The Witcher video games.

The Netflix series stars Cavill, Freya Allan and Anya Chalotra, and Season 2 is eyeing a 2021 release date on Netflix if all goes well.
