Costa del Sol
For over 60 years, Brits and other nationalities from the cooler parts of Europe have been flocking to Spain’s Costa del Sol for a week of sun and fun. The resorts offer great facilities, beautiful white sand beaches and some interesting towns to visit when you fancy a change from the shore. Hotels like the Benalmadena Palace have great facilities for all the family and are within easy reach of the fab beaches.
Cyprus
If you like to mix in some cultural sightseeing with your sunbathing, then Cyprus has so much to offer. You can see the birthplace of Aphrodite near to Paphos and visit other places attached to Greek mythology. The old town of Paphos has World Heritage status and is a fascinating place to spend a day or half a day exploring.
Turkey
Turkey is a really popular beach holiday destination and with lovely resorts like Marmaris it’s easy to see the attraction. Add to that the great food, amazing markets and other shopping you can do in Turkey, as well as natural attractions like Cappadoccia and Cotton Castle, and you won’t have enough time to see and do everything Turkey has to offer.
Sicily
A part of Italy yet with its own separate identity, Sicily has some beautiful beaches and the amazing landscape around Mount Etna. You’ll also be able to visit heritage sites like the ruins of Segesta and the Valley of the Temples in Agrigento, mixing a little Greek history with your days on the beach.
Cornwall
While most Brits like to escape to the continent for a holiday, many people are now spending more holidays at home – giving them to discover gems in their own backyard like the amazing beaches in Cornwall and seaside towns like St Ives and Padstow. If you’re lucky, you’ll get a hot week while you’re there, if not you may have to seek indoor entertainment to avoid Cornish misty rain!
