Eyes down for a full house.
Bingo has certainly seen a resurgence in popularity over the past few years mostly thanks to the huge array of online and mobile-based bingo sites and games now available. It’s once more become a fun and sociable way to play along with friends and other players online as well as at your local bingo hall.
The game itself is so iconic that it even features in a number of memorable scenes on both the big and small screen; popping up in some notable films and TV shows, some of which we explore below.
Better Call Saul (2015)
Whilst many still mourn the loss of hit TV Show Breaking Bad they can still enjoy the excellent spin-off series ‘Better Call Saul’ focusing on Walter White’s former lawyer Saul Goodman.
One of the many highlights from the first season happened in the 7th episode where Saul, finally tired of things not going right for him, decided to take a break from his role as bingo caller at a retirement home in order to give a fantastically dark rant to the bemused residents.
Bad Grandpa (2013)
Jackass star Johnny Knoxville once more donned his old-guy make-up for his role as Irving Zisman in hidden camera comedy Bad Grandpa.
In one particularly hilarious scene saw Zisman interacting with other aged bingoers as well as drinking the bingo marker fluid to the astonishment of the other players until he eventually brings out a blender to begin making margaritas.
Hotel Transylvania (2012)
In the hilarious 2012 animated family movie Hotel Transylvania a whole new twist on the game of bingo emerges. Never have we witnessed scenes quite like this with the appearance of skull shaped balls that actually spoke their numbers to the caller.
The film features the vocal talent of Adam Sandler who plays Dracula who runs the hotel for monsters. The movie also stars Andy Samberg, Kevin James and Selena Gomez.
Curb Your Enthusiasm (2005)
The brainchild of Seinfeld co-creator Larry David comes the wonderfully irreverent and constantly cringe-worthy comedy series Curb Your Enthusiasm; a series depicting Larry in a variety of awkward situations.
In Season 5, and in typical Curb-style, Larry once more found himself in an unfortunate sequence of events when a game of bingo he was playing at his father’s retirement home transpires into hilarious consequences.
