Gerry Anderson’s Thunderbirds has reached its 60th anniversary — time to celebrate
While some of us at Cultbox are still getting our heads behind Thunderbirds reaching its sixtieth anniversary, let’s take a look at some of the ways you can mark the occasion. First of all, what better to treat yourself to a lavish and definitive collection?
What does the Thunderbirds definitive collection comprise?
The series has been remastered and restored. All 32 original episodes are presented in their original 4:3 aspect ratio and have been restored in high definition (HD) from original film elements. You can choose between original mono sound or enhanced 5.1 surround audio. There’s more. Some episodes have been restored with reinstated shots previously too challenging to include. And there are Three anniversary episodes – Introducing Thunderbirds, The Abominable Snowman and The Stately Homes Robberies. These are available for the first time on general home entertainment release.
Taking eleven discs and over 35 hours to watch, there’s also a lot of bonus content, documentaries, classic adverts and more. This trailer gives the flavour:
Yes, Thunderbirds are still very much go!
What else can I do to celebrate?
If you can get there, Slough Museum has a set of free events running until 20th December this year. You’ve missed the celebration launch, but you can still get free entry to the exhibition every Friday and Saturday until then. Sounds pretty F A B to us!
