The Walking Dead franchise has been a prestige television staple since the early 2010s. From the moment viewers saw the Walkers stumbling around Atlanta back in 2010, they were hooked, leading to one of AMC’s biggest success stories. The core series ended in 2021, but its many spinoffs continue to collect strong ratings worldwide.
Right now, two spin-offs continue to roll, and there’s another in the works. More Tales from the Walking Dead Universe is currently in development without a release date, but Daryl Dixon will conclude this year, and Dead City will likely get another instalment this year. It’s in the Manhattan-set show that a fan-favourite will return.
Filming Begins and Big Character News Breaks

On 15 January, news broke that the cast and crew of Dead City had begun the NYC filming leg of the show. The reveals showed stars Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Lauren Cohan wrapped up with coffees on the streets of the iconic city. Of course, they were expected to be spotted for the filming segments in NYC.
What wasn’t expected was the reveal on X of a character who we haven’t seen as a core cast member since Season 5, which aired way back in November 2014. That returning fan-favourite, it has been revealed, is Beth Greene. The sister of Lauren Cohan’s character, Maggie, has been on set in winter attire.
The reveal shows Beth’s actor, Emily Kinney, alongside Maggie as they go for a stroll through Central Park. Almost certainly, this will be a flashback sequence as The Walking Dead doesn’t resurrect, and Beth was most certainly killed off. How it’ll play into the plot and why the memory hasn’t returned to Maggie prior are yet to be revealed.
Plenty for TWD Fans to Dig Their Teeth into

Viewership on the main run of the show peaked in 2014. The premiere of TWD’s fifth earned a massive 17.29 million viewers, with five million more over the ensuing week in the US alone. It ended with about 1.4 million viewers – so still of interest, but not as much as around seven years earlier, which is to be expected.
The Walking Dead: Dead City commanded two million viewers to become the most-watched AMC+ premiere. While not as immediately and rampantly popular as it once was, TWD continues to command a hefty fandom, helped by its broad appeal across entertainment.
After all, TWD essentially became the premier brand of zombie media. The many spin-off shows have helped to keep it a permanent fixture on TV and streaming. Then, there are the many games set within the world. This arm even extends to the collection of slots alongside the bingo UK players gravitate to.
The Walking Dead, The Walking Dead: Cash Collect, The Walking Dead: Lucky Tap, The Walking Dead 2, and The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live Slot all feature the lead characters and Walkers from the show for a distinctly TWD way to spin. With these not relying on premieres and being constantly available, fans can always jump in.
This year, fans are guaranteed an end to the Daryl Dixon story, while Dead City might come later, but it tends to follow a two-year turnaround. So, while Beth may not return in 2026, there’ll still be lots for TWD fans to dig into.
