When a film or TV show is a monster success, there’s a high chance it’ll be represented in other forms of media. It’s often the case that when something makes a ton of money at the box office or attracts a large number of viewers, themed games are created. Major films and TV shows don’t just inspire console-based video games, they also serve as inspiration for quite a few online casino games.
There are several hundred companies that create slots for online casinos. Only a handful of them develop branded slots that are based on popular IPs. For example, there are numerous Microgaming slot machines that fit this category. Microgaming, like other providers, acquires the necessary licences to use another company’s media in its branded slots.
While there are many online slots based on films and TV shows, some of them are inspired by obscure, less well-known titles. On this page, we’re focusing on blockbuster slots, i.e. slot games themed to ridiculously successful films and hugely popular TV shows.
Game of Thrones
There’s no denying that Game of Thrones is one of the biggest, most influential TV shows in recent times. It was nothing short of a phenomenon, attracting impressive ratings for HBO and receiving critical acclaim. It ran for eight seasons from 2011 to 2019, producing a total of 73 episodes.
In December 2014, Microgaming released a Game of Thrones slot that came in two versions: one had 15 paylines and the other 243. Each free spins round is named after one of the show’s houses: Baratheon, Lannister, Stark and Targaryen. Jurassic World
Microgaming has also created an online slot based on Jurassic World. Released in 2015, it was the fourth instalment in the Jurassic Park series and remains the biggest of the seven in the series with a worldwide gross of $1.6 billion. It was the third-highest-grossing film of all time, though as of late 2025 it’s the tenth.
The Jurassic World online slot was released by the provider Microgaming in 2017. It’s a medium volatility game that has 243 ways to win on every spin and a maximum payout of 14,000x your bet. Like the Game of Thrones slot, it has several free spins rounds, each of which gives you 10 spins. There are three and each one is based on a different location in the film.
Gyrosphere Valley has a multiplier that starts at 2x and increases by 1x whenever a spin doesn’t produce any wins. It can reach a maximum value of 7x. As for Creation Lab, this has Rolling Reels, where winning symbols are removed and replaced by symbols falling from above, which can create more wins. Finally, there’s Raptor Den, where all scatters act as wilds and collecting enough of them earns you more free spins.
Squid Game
One of the biggest streaming-exclusive shows is Squid Game. The Korean production’s record-breaking first season was released in 2021 exclusively on Netflix. The second season then debuted in late 2024, with the third and final one getting released in mid-2025. With a reported 265 million views, its first season is the most-watched of any TV show season on Netflix, while its second and third instalments also rank very highly.
The slot provider Light & Wonder has created several games inspired by the Squid Game series. Squid Game One Lucky Day does a brilliant job of capturing the tension and high stakes of the games featured in the show. Ted
There are two films in the Ted series, released in 2012 and 2015. Together they’ve earned around 5 million and have spawned a live action series that debuted in 2024 and has been renewed for a second series. The fantasy comedy series is about a man whose childhood wish to bring his teddy bear to life comes true.
Blueprint Gaming has released several Ted-themed online slots. The original Ted slot came out in 2017 and is a medium volatility game with a maximum win of 10,000x your bet and no fewer than 11 features.
