Andrew Lincoln’s role as Rick Grimes in The Walking Dead was a blessing and a curse for the English actor. It was excellent in that it made him one of the biggest stars on television, but the character was so iconic that there’s a risk that he’ll always be connected with it.
Lincoln has barely played any other characters in different productions since he became the zombie slaying Grimes in 2010, but he needs to try to move on from that role now. ITV’s upcoming Cold Water could be the perfect opportunity for Lincoln to shed his iconic character and kickstart a new phase of his career.
New ITV Drama Set for Release in 2025
Lincoln will be scrapping his southern American accent this year when he takes on the role of John in ITV’s upcoming drama, Cold Water. The offering is described as a dark psychological thriller, and John is a middle-aged man in crisis.
In the six-part offering, Lincoln’s character finds himself in an abnormal situation when he befriends a sinister neighbour. The series was written by award-winning playwright David Ireland, and features some other great British actors, including Ewen Bremner, Indira Varma, and Eve Myles. It has all the elements to make it a success, and it will give Lincoln a chance to show his acting range.
Lincoln Needs to Shake His Association With Rick Grimes
There are countless actors who have played iconic roles over the years and then found it hard to shake them. Jason Alexander famously had a long association with George Costanza that he found difficult to shake, as did Mark Hamill with Luke Skywalker.
Rick Grimes is one of the best-known characters in the modern entertainment industry, and when people look at Lincoln, they think of him as the post-apocalyptic hero. The fact that The Walking Dead has expanded way beyond the original series has added to Grimes’ notoriety.
Aside from the main series, the character recently appeared in the spinoff, The Ones Who Live. He also features in The Walking Dead slot game, which is one of the top options at bingo sites. Players can enjoy it using bingo promotions, such as the 200 per cent deposit match welcome bonus.
Although he’s likely to always have some association with Grimes, Lincoln now needs to show that he can play other parts just as well. Cold Water will give him the chance to do just that.
Following Bryan Cranston’s Footsteps
Although Lincoln may feel like he will be forever associated with Grimes, there is hope for him. Bryan Cranston played the most iconic character of all time when he starred as Walter White in Breaking Bad. This didn’t hinder his career, though. In fact, it turned him into a Hollywood powerhouse, and he has earned countless top acting roles in the years since that series ended.
Cold Water is an exciting offering and could be a huge hit for ITV. It offers Lincoln the chance to shed his association with Grimes and move on to a new stage of his career.
