Netflix has greenlit A Man on the Inside 3 — yes, another season for Ted Danson’s retiree turned sleuth
Creator Mike Schur says season 3 will build on the foundations of the first two seasons. If you’ve not yet caught up with the show, the following contains spoilers.
What’s the story so far ahead of details on A Man on the Inside 3
The press release gives some good details for seasons 1 and 2. Season 1, which was inspired by the Oscar-nominated documentary The Mole Agent, introduces Charles Nieuwendyk (Danson). He’s a recent widower whose daughter, Emily (Mary Elizabeth Ellis), beseeches him to trade his daily postcard habit for a more substantial hobby. He answers a newspaper ad calling for someone over 70 years old who knows how to use an iPhone, which lands him in the Pacific View retirement community as a private investigator in search of a jewelry thief. While Charles does locate the missing accessories, he also gains a new lease on life and a cadre of dynamic and hilarious friends.
In season 2, Charles goes undercover as an engineering professor at Wheeler College to find out who is trying to thwart a staggering donation from a problematic billionaire, Brad Vinick (Gary Cole). Though Charles has honed his PI chops, his dating skills are a little rusty when he meets free-spirited musician and fellow professor Mona (Mary Steenburgen). Is he ready and able to open his heart again after his wife’s passing? And more importantly, has he fallen for the very criminal he’s been sent to unmask?
Apart from looking forward to season 3, there’s no real detail provided, but we expect plenty to follow.
Will it air this year? Season 2 aired last November, so there’s every chance season 3 will do the same. We’ll be keeping our eyes open.
