Batman’s Knightfall storyline will be adapted into a multipart feature animation, here’s what we know so far.
Warner Bros. announced the adaptation at New York Comic Con, the first instalment of the Knightfall story is currently in production.
What’s it about?
Adapted from the series of DC comics that ran from 1993-1994, Knightfall‘s story was spread over three parts. This included Knightfall, Knightquest and KnightsEnd. The animated adaptation is set to take on a similar structure, with the first instalment being titled Batman: Knightfall Part 1: Knightfall. This would suggest the series of films will be made up of three parts, similar to the source material. This take on Batman’s story shows Bane taking down Batman, only to find a more violent hero in his place. It’s regarded by fans as one of the darker storylines in Batman, which is saying something given Batman‘s reputation of having a darker, grittier attitude when compared to other mainstream DC heroes.
Who’s in it?
The voice cast is currently being kept under wraps. Fans have been speculating whether casting will try and imitate the iconic voices given to Batman and Bane in live-action adaptations by Christian Bale and Tom Hardy respectively in The Dark Knight Rises.
Who’s behind it?
Knightfall‘s first part will be directed by Jeff Wamester (The Legend of Vox Machina) and written by Jeremy Adams (Supernatural). It has Sam Register (Son of Batman) and Michael Uslan as executive producers, with Jim Krieg and Kimberly S. Moreau (My Adventures with Superman) producing. Rick Morales (Beware the Batman) is serving as a supervising producer.
When will it be out?
Although there’s no solid release date yet, Batman: Knightfall Part 1: Knightfall is set to be released in 2026.
