Chiwetel Ejiofor, who will star in the new Exorcist film

Cast announced for Exorcist film

Posted Filed under

The upcoming production of a brand-new Exorcist film has recently released the newcomers to its cast, here’s what we know so far about the Blumhouse production:

What’s it about?

Immediately confirmed to not be a remake nor a sequel, but moreso a film set in the universe of the Exorcist story. Very little is currently known about the details of the plot of this new take on the universe, but it’s not unlikely to see it following a similar thread to the original setup from Blatty and Friedkin. There’s rumours that the story will star an ex-con-turned-priest, alongside a mother and her son.

Who’s in it?

The current cast list boasts a lot of talent including Chiwetel Ejiofor (Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy), Scarlett Johansson (Lost in Translation), Jacobi Jupe (Hamnet), Lawerence Fishburne (The Matrix) and Diane Lane (Anniversary). It’s likely we’ll be seeing more recognisable faces joining this group as developments continue to come out.

Who’s behind it?

Mike Flanagan has taken on adapting King’s Doctor Sleep and Gerald’s Game, so it’s no surprise he’s taking on Exorcist. The film was also written and produced by Flanagan. Jason Blum (The Invisible Man) will also produce alongside Flanagan. The executive producers have been reported to include Alexandra Magistro (The Life of Chuck), David Robinson (Man of the Year) and Ryan Turek (The Black Phone).
