Chronicles of Narnia begins UK filming

Filming has started at Shepperton Studios for Greta Gerwin’s first Netflix The Chronicles of Narnia film

We’ve been following rumours about a Great Gerwin (Barbie) Netflix project adapting CS Lewis’s Narnia novels, now The Knowledge Online reveals filming has started in the UK at Shepperton Studios. While most adaptations start with the first published The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe, this project is starting with the sixth novel, The Magician’s Nephew, which is actually chronologically the first. We at Cultbox are very pleased to hear this — previous adaptations have failed to cover all seven novels, and we look forward to seeing this on screen.

What do we know about the first Chronicles of Narnia film?

The cast is reported to include Emma Mackey, Daniel Craig and Carey Mulligan. Fans of the books will know one of the central figures is Aslan the Lion — it’s rumoured Meryl Streep will be voicing the part, though this is as yet unconfirmed.

If the film is an adaptation of The Magician’s Nephew, the book is set in 1900’s London. Two children (Polly and Digory) meet while playing and decide to explore the attic in Digory’s Uncle Andrew’s study. There Polly is tricked into touching a magic ring and the children then have adventures in multiple worlds, and meet Queen Jadis, who follows them back to London, grabs part of a lamppost and all end up in Narnia as Aslan is singing it into life. The story is both one of Lewis’s most imaginative as well as answering questions about some of the backstory in The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe.

The film is scheduled for a global two-week Imax release in November 2026, before it hits Netflix at Christmas later that year.
