Not many films have faced the same struggle as Coyote vs. Acme, now that the fight seems to be over, here’s everything we know:
This project looked like a contender to Who Framed Roger Rabbit? in the world of extremely ambitious animated projects, you’d like to think the struggle to make it when the editor hit “export” for the final time – but you’d be far from correct. Despite the film being fully finished and ready to release, Warner Bros made the extremely unpopular move to cancel the project altogether, causing a years-long campaign by those behind, and those interested in seeing it, to keep the film alive. Those efforts weren’t in vain as now the project is set to hit theatres as intended, with a trailer officially released.
What’s it about?
Inspired by an article from The New Yorker during the 1990s, this story follows a courtroom case against the ACME corporation. The mysterious label on those falling anvils gets given a lot more context once a very famous Coyote decides to buy into a lawyer’s advert promising compensation against ACME and the entire case spirals out of control as the company’s recessive lawyers wage war on a cast of cartoon characters. The legal world becomes riddled with cartoonish pranks, explosions and villains as we’re treated to appearances from some of our favourite looney toons.
Who’s in it?
The cast for Coyote vs. Acme includes Will Forte (MacGruber), John Cena (Peacemaker), Lana Condor (Pretty Lethal), Eric Bauza (The Day The Earth Blew Up), Luis Guzmán (Wednesday), Martha Kelly (Common Side Effects), Jeff Bergman (Looney Tunes) and many more.
When’s it out?
The long-awaited theatrical release date is now 28th August of this year.
