An unexpected, but not entirely unwelcome, crossover looks like it’s going to be making its way to our screens, here’s what we know so far:
Django and Zorro are both figures in cinema with their own significant legacies. Tarantino’s and Jamie Foxx’s titular character helped mould the film’s story into a cinema cult-classic, as is the case with many Tarantino films. Zorro’s character barely requires an introduction as the mask-wearing swordsman has inspired multiple parodies and characters, the most contemporary being Puss in Boots from the Shrek universe. Now that a project combining the two has been announced, there’s a lot to consider in terms of what to expect out of the adaptation from page to screen.
What’s it about?
The world of Django began with Tarantino’s Django Unchained and continued in comic form in 2014. As the protagonist continued his vigilante bounty-hunting adventures, he soon shared panels with a brand-new presence. The similar vocation of the pairing of Django and Zorro seem to provide a common ground for them to work from – but, their drastically different backgrounds, origins stories and moral compasses provides a potential point of conflict between the pair. There’s not been any official announcements around the project’s specific plot as of yet.
Who’s in it?
No official cast has been announced, it’s unknown is Foxx or Antonio Banderas will reprise their roles as the two heroes.
Who’s behind it?
Tarantino isn’t involved in the project, beyond giving it his blessing, Brian Helgeland (LA Confidential) is set to write it.
