The classic gothic film is getting a makeover, and an adaptation into another movie, here’s what we know so far about the project:

What’s it about?

The new film is proposed to be a more contemporary look at the classic story. We will watch a travelling mesmerist named Dr. Caligari as he journeys from town to town with an enthralled sleepwalker following his every step. She acts as his unknowing puppet, carrying out his will wherever they go, the pair leave a bloody trail of murder through anyplace unfortunate enough to host them. As the pair continue carrying out the evil Doctor’s will, a woman’s partner mysteriously disappears and all the clues she finds point towards the terrible duo. There’s just one snag though, nobody seems to believe her.

Who’s in it?

These are early days for this particular project, only one name has been attached. Michael Shannon (Knives Out) will take on the titular role as the supernaturally enigmatic doctor. There’s plenty of room for more starts to join him to bring this new take on this beloved horror.

Who’s behind it?

John Erick Dowdle (As Above, So Below) has been attached as a director and screenwriter, he will work alongside his brother Drew Dowdle (Waco), who will produce.
