Friends won’t be back with any new specials or be rebooted for a new generation as long as co-creators Marta Kauffman and David Crane have anything to say about it.
The pair were at a 25th Anniversary panel for the beloved sitcom at the Tribeca TV Festival last week, where they confirmed that any rumours about Friends lurching back to life were completely false.
“We will not be doing a reunion show, we will not be doing a reboot,” Marta Kauffman said. “The show was about that time in life when friends are your family.” With regards to any reboot possibilities Kauffman then added, “It’s not going to beat what we did.”
Crane then chipped in to back Kauffman up about the chances of the duo revisiting Friends in the future. “We did the show we wanted to do. We got it right, and we put a bow on it.”
Fans had been hoping that the show’s 25th anniversary would herald the announcement of a reunion special or even a small collection of new episodes, so that they could rejoin Ross, Rachel, Phoebe, Chandler, Joey and Monica to see how the group were getting on so many years later.
But no. That’s that, we suppose! If anything changes, we’ll let you know.
