The BBC has released the first promotional image for the third series of Luther and confirmed that the crime drama will return to BBC One this summer.

Series 3 will air on BBC America as a four-night television event from 3-6 September at 10pm.

Guest starring Sienna Guillory (Resident Evil) as a new love interest, the four 60-minute episodes began filming last November and sees Luther “under intense pressure, with two conflicting crimes to investigate and a ruthless ex-copper determined to bring him down”.

Alongside returning cast members Warren Brown (Good Cop) as DS Justin ‘Ripley’, Nikki Amuka-Bird as DS Erin Gray, Dermot Crowley as DSU Martin Schenk and Michael Smiley as Benny Deadhead, guest stars will include Lucian Msamati (Game of Thrones) and Ned Dennehy (Parade’s End).
