Meet the cast of Netflix’s new adaptation of Laura Ingalls Wilder’s Little House on the Prairie

Running at just over 200 episodes over 9 seasons and various specials, Little House on the Prairie (like The Waltons) was one of those shows everyone seemed to know of, even if they claimed never to have watched. Running from 1974-1983, it told the story of the Ingalls family, and was loosely based on Laura Ingalls Wilder’s series of American children’s novels based on her own childhood and growing up in the American Midwest between 1872 and 1894. The books were written during the Great Depression and first published in the 1930s.

Who are the cast of the new adaptation of Little House on the Prairie

Thanks to the latest press release, we know Alice Halsey (Lessons in Chemistry) has been cast as Laura Ingalls, the bright, honest, authority-questioning young heroine of our story. A transformed adaptation of Wilder’s semi-autobiographical books, the new Little House on the Prairie is part family drama, part epic survival tale, and part origin story of the American West. The series will offer a kaleidoscopic view of the struggles and triumphs of those who shaped the frontier.

The press release has short bios of each character, which we have further truncated. There are also images of each of those we mention — the press release also has other characters.

Luke Bracey (Elvis, Hacksaw Ridge, Little Fires Everywhere) will play Laura’s ruggedly handsome, charming, and outgoing father, Charles Ingalls. Charles is a farmer and a trapper, a carpenter and an artist.

Crosby Fitzgerald (Crime 101, Palm Royale) will play Laura’s mother, Caroline Ingalls.

Skywalker Hughes (I, Object) will play Mary Ingalls, Laura’s older sister and polar opposite. Always angling to be the good daughter, the ladylike one, the prettier one, Mary is a rule follower — obedient, quiet, and studious.

Jocko Sims (New Amsterdam) will play Dr. George Tann. Dr. Tann is a generous and kindhearted man with a charming bedside manner.

Warren Christie (The Watchful Eye) will play John Edwards, a Civil War veteran from Tennessee. Edwards is a gregarious and mysterious man who catches the eye of every single woman in the county (maybe some of the married ones, too).

Meegwun Fairbrother (Avatar: The Last Airbender) will play Mitchell, a tenderhearted man and successful farmer who lives with his family in Kansas, where he built the most impressive homestead in the county.

Alyssa Wapanatǎhk (Peter Pan and Wendy) will play White Sun. White Sun is opinionated, beautiful, and has a sharp sense of humor. At times, she sees the world through a more cynical lens than her husband, Mitchell.

Wren Zhawenim Gotts (Echo) will play Good Eagle, the daughter of Mitchell and White Sun.

Xander Cole (People of the West, You Can Take It With You) will play Little Puma, White Sun’s younger brother. Little Puma is good-hearted, but bullheaded, and he’s trying to find his place in the world.

The new adaption is by Rebecca Sonnenshine (The Boys, The Vampire Diaries, Archive 81). We’ll be back when there’s more news.
