You can watch the first few minutes of Little House on the Prarie now — here’s how
The frontier saga begins anew on July 9.
What can we expect from this new adaptation of The Little House on the Prairie
The latest press release (at the time of writing) tells us the series from showrunner and executive producer Rebecca Sonnenshine reimagines Laura Ingalls Wilder’s beloved semi-autobiographical novels for a new generation, drawing on Wilder’s frontier tales which were published in the 1930s.
Part family saga, part survival epic, and part origin story of the American West, the series follows Laura Ingalls, played by Alice Halsey (Lessons in Chemistry), a bright and spirited young girl whose perspective illuminates both the challenges and possibilities of frontier life.
If you want more on the show itself the Meet the Ingalls video will give you a good sense of the show:
As to the chance to watch the first few minutes, it’s not on YouTube — you can watch it at the start of the press release.
Another perspective
If you’re off a certain vintage (as are some of us at CultBox), you probably look back on the show with nostalgic rose-tinted glasses. You may find this piece from BBC Culture alarming. We’re sure the Netflix series will be far more idyllic.
