Apple TV is expanding the Monsterverse with a new prequel series to Monarch: Legacy of Monsters

Not only can fans of the Monsterverse look forward to season 2 of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, but now a spin-off has been confirmed. Here’s what we know so far.

With the Monsterverse expanding, how does a new show fit

Let’s start with the press release statement (edited for conciseness):

Apple TV announced the expansion of Legendary’s Monsterverse with a thrilling new untitled Young Lee Shaw prequel starring Wyatt Russell reprising his role as Colonel Lee Shaw. Screenwriter and producer Joby Harold has been tapped to showrun. Under a newly announced overall deal with Legendary, Harold will also oversee Legendary’s entire Monsterverse franchise for Apple TV, featuring both new and fan-favourite Titans.

Note the phrase new and fan-favourite.

Starring and executive produced by Russell, the spinoff series will follow the story of Colonel Lee Shaw, an American operative who, in 1984, went on a secret mission behind enemy lines in an attempt to stop the Soviets from unleashing a horrific new Titan big enough to destroy the U.S. and turn the tide of the Cold War. Joby Harold wrote and executive produced Obi-Wan Kenobi, and also involvement in Edge of Tomorrow, the John Wick franchise, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, The Flash and more.

It’s obviously early in the development of the series, but we expect more news next year (including title and further cast details). We expect the show will appear in 2027, but would be happy to be proven wrong with an earlier arrival.
