NBC gives a series order to the David Boreanaz led reboot of The Rockford Files
This is one of several series coming off the back of the 2026/27 slate of pilots. Other shows include the drama Line of Fire and comedies Sunset PI and Newlyweds.
What we know about the Rockford Files reboot
We first mentioned this in February, when we had some basic details on the creative team and Boreanaz’s casting. The commissioning update from Deadline tells us:
A contemporary update on the classic series of the same name. Newly paroled after doing time for a crime he didn’t commit, James Rockford returns to his life as a private investigator using his charm and wit to solve cases around Los Angeles. It doesn’t take long for his quest for legitimacy to land him squarely in the crosshairs of both local police and organised crime.
It’s perhaps a tidier version of the same copy from last time. We do have some casting details. The series stars David Boreanaz, Michaela McManus (One Tree Hill), Felix Solis (Ozark, The Rookie) and Jacki Weaver (Yellowstone). We assume filming later this year and a release in 2027. As and when we learn more we’ll bring you the news. Until then, we’ll leave you with this from Boreanaz’s Instagram:
