A new Spitting Image pilot has already been filmed…
Plenty of people still have fond memories of watching Spitting Image from when it originally aired between 1984 and 1996, and now it looks like the show will return with a brand new series, which seeks to aim its venom and mockery a little higher and further outside the UK for the most part.
A pilot episode of the new Spitting Image has already wrapped, per original co-creator Roger Law (The Guardian).
“It’s a pig of a show to do, but I think the current situation warrants the effort,” said Law, referring to our political climate and global issues. “It’s pretty chaotic out there. As far as I’m concerned, it’s better than shouting at the television set, isn’t it? So I thought, let’s give it a go.”
The days of the series taking aim at middling members of the UK Cabinet are over, however, and Spitting Image is now eyeing a US broadcaster. “Dominic Raab? You’ve got to be kidding. If you’re going to go after the bastards, you may as well go after the biggest bastards there are, hence America. It’s an awful lot of trouble to go to, and you want it to be effective.”
Indeed, the new pilot reportedly featured an ‘S and M-clad Vladimir Putin, Mark Zuckerberg, Meghan Markle wearing a glittery ‘princess’ T-shirt and a puppet of Donald Trump whose tweets are composed by his anus’ and production company Avalon (Catastrophe) has hired The Simpsons writer Jeff Westbrook as showrunner, who says that “today’s world does seem to have an especially large number of evil goofballs who deserve taking down.”
Well, he’s not wrong.
