Amazon Prime Instant Video has announced that the third season of Ripper Street will begin next month.
The eight episodes will each be released from 9pm every Friday night from 14 November exclusively for Amazon Prime Instant Video members, launching with a double bill and concluding on Boxing Day.
Season 3 will later be broadcast on BBC One and BBC America in 2015.
Amazon members will be able to view a special extended ‘Amazon cut’ of all eight episodes, featuring exclusive scenes which will not be shown on the BBC due to time constraints.
Starring Matthew Macfadyen as Detective Inspector Reid, Jerome Flynn as the newly promoted Detective Inspector Bennet Drake, Adam Rothenberg as Captain Homer Jackson, and MyAnna Buring as Long Susan, the new season returns to the notorious ‘H’ Division, the police precinct charged with keeping order on the meanest beat imaginable: late Victorian Whitechapel.
Speaking exclusively to CultBox earlier this year, Ripper Street writer Toby Finlay revealed: “If you saw the end of the second series, you’ll know that pretty much every major character was in some way devastated by the events which came to culmination. All I’ll say is that the third series begins some four years after that.”
