When does Ripper Street season 5 start on BBC2? There’s not long to wait now.
This six-episode final season of Ripper Street will air on BBC Two from 19th June at 21:00, the BBC has confirmed.
It show’s 5th season will pick up mere days after the grisly death of Detective Inspector Bennet Drake (Jerome Flynn. It will reunite Detective Inspector Edmund Reid (Matthew Macfadyen), surgeon Captain Homer Jackson (Adam Rothenberg ) and ‘Long’ Susan Hart (MyAnna Buring), to bring his murderer to justice.
The series was always intended as a five series story by creator Richard Warlow. Good job, because it has become one of the biggest success stories for British television. It has sold to 199 territories around the world, winning BAFTA and Ivor Novello awards along the way. It was named Radio Times’ Best Show of 2013 and was the third-highest rated BBC Two drama of 2016.
Richard Warlow says: “Saying goodbye to this world of Ripper Street and its characters is going to be a very strange thing. From the beginning when I began writing, I had in mind a five series arc, ending with us sending our characters off into the twentieth century. I’m immensely proud we have been able to tell the story as we hoped, and equally proud that such a huge number of the original cast and the creative team have been involved every step of the way.”
You may remember from the previous series that a new serial killer was plaguing the streets of Whitechapel. Convinced that the murderer’s cannibalistic crimes were being covered, Reid and Drake’s investigation led them right to the heart of Scotland Yard. Specifically, it pointed to Assistant Commissioner Augustus Dove (Killian Scott) and his brother Nathaniel Dove (Jonas Armstrong). We saw Nathaniel Kill DI Drake in season 4’s finale, forcing the shows other protagonists to go on the run…
Other returning cast members include Matthew Lewis (Harry Potter), Joseph Mawle (Game of Thrones), Benjamin O’Mahony (Kilo Two Bravo), Lydia Wilson (Star Trek Beyond), Anna Burnett (The Falling).
